BrainControl AAC is an alternative augmentative communication device based on Active Intelligence for human-machine interaction via bio-feedback. The goal is to enable people suffering from diseases such as tetraplegia, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Multiple Sclerosis, and muscular dystrophies of various kinds to overcome motor and communication disabilities. The device fills a technological vacuum for most locked-in patients and meets many of the unmet needs of patients in less advanced states.
BrainControl was created by Liquidweb, a startup operating in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector, with particular focus on Mobile services and Pervasive Technologies applied to the areas of mobile health, smart environment and virtual workspace. The goal is to solve some of the problems still unresolved thanks to the experience in this field, the progress in assistive technologies (AT) and human-computer interaction (HCI) and the valuable feedback from users using the device.
BrainControl is an Artificial Intelligence-based framework for human-machine interaction through biofeedback for a wide range of applications; the device, the first CE-marked Medical Device available on the market, provides two main interaction modalities: "BCI AAC" and "Sensory AAC". Through the use of different types of biofeedback allows to provide a single solution able to follow the patient over time.
